  1. ThorkilKowalski says:

In 1900, most people would have thought that the maximum number of people, the world could carry was about 2 or 3 bn. I have seen estimates that the world can carry 80bn people. It could carry at least twice as many as today if we didn't eat meat. (No. I am not a vegetarian).

Besides, population growth should be described by something called logistic growth, not exponential growth.

And we have been talking about running out of oil for more than 100 years.

Your other videos are better, though

  2. Linoran1985 says:

This is only true when the growth rate is stable. In real life the growth rate usually decreases over time.

  3. juanleiden says:

we will be separated. People who have power nowadays will be isolated concentrating all. it's obvious

  4. polarbeach says:

well what have you done in your life except throw stones that is ? I'm calling you a crook , weasel and a liar for not helping to educate anyone in anyway !

  5. polarbeach says:

not depressing at all grrrr ... can't I just put blinders on and watch some reality tv ... the future on any account just does not look good.

  6. pohjalo says:

"Some" machine parts ? That´s why it costs $10 million to generate 5 MW of power ? No byproducts from the boring, no hazards from working at the seams off litospheric plates (earthquakes etc) ?

  7. MatthewBissonnette88 says:

What about geothermal, using the heat of the inner earth to convert water into steam, use turbines to generate electricity. We are tectonic plates floating on giant oceans of magma, there would be a practically limitless supply of energy there. The only requirements are some machine parts, water and the ability to bore down deeply into the Earth's crust, the only
byproduct is water vapor. Also building this would employ a lot of people, during a global economic downturn.

  8. pohjalo says:

Massive technology projects demand massive amount of energy&commodities. Solar panel production is limited by polysilicon supply. Accumulator technology by litium supply. Fission by uranium (235 isotope, I think) supply.

  9. pohjalo says:

..and we need to live on less energy while waiting for that technology. Ie. probably cut down on materialistic consumption.

  10. svd348 says:

We can solve the money issue by returning to sound money.

  11. Holidats says:

Excellent video, thankyou for explaining so well.

I think war or disease will reduce the population.

Anyway, thanks for producing the vid, I'm trying to distribute it as widely as possible.

  12. inewkiller says:

lol i wont worry coz im dead for the next 50 years XD

  13. MatthewBissonnette88 says:

We live in a world in need of revolutionary change, not a political revolution but a revolution of thought, a revolution that will change what it means to be human. The logic of the twentieth century, a century of an abundance of wealth, may prove unsuitable for a time where demand may far surpass supply. Earth's natural bounty of cheap energy is being depleted at an increasing speed which may threaten all of human society. We need a technological to free of us of dependency on oil.

  14. MatthewBissonnette88 says:

This can be done through massive technological projects to harness renewable forms of energy like solar, wind, geothermal and tidal. We also need a revolution of self so we can meet the challenges of a new century. A awakening which will break people free from simplistic reality created by the Status Quo which reduces man into merely being a consumer. Us, our society, cannot remain stagnant but must evolve as our world changes.

  15. Piscivorus says:

and they'll be saying the same thing 50 years from now

  16. Nuanceqwest says:

    Turn that frown upside down!!!

Forget 1million years ago.... 50 years ago people would say that what we have today is a millionaire's lifestyle.

  17. Piscivorus says:

    ...no

  18. Nuanceqwest says:

Is it a co-incidence that technology and advancement has grown exponentially to meet these challenges?

Could it just be possible that there is an exponential ablitly of man to adapt?

  19. schwupsdidups says:

also have a look at the movie "monetary growth" by Helmut Creutz. This movie explains why compound interest causes exponential growing indeptness. Which is the main cause why we are facing a total crash of our economy.

  20. hatchls1 says:

This video isnt saying that. It is just explaining the situation. You can deny facts all that you want but the simple fact is that you can only put so many people on a finite piece of land. There are two options. Continue population growth. For this we must become more scientific, more intelligent. more conservative in our lives and help eachother more in day to day life. orrrr. You have to depopulate the world. The world is invincible in its longevity.

  21. MaxZagar says:

I think nature has its natural control mechanisms. Humans do not need to do anything. I think Chris has a point, and this is actually working against globalism. It's local and small preserving nature that is the key.

  22. Evilfisher says:

    oh noes.

  23. Evilfisher says:

lets kill 90% of the population! yeah that wil make a better future indeed.

    fucking globalist propaganda

  24. dibbuck says:

Hyperbolas are asymptotic. The hyperbola, being the only asymptotic conic, is the most reasonable substitute for the exponential proposed in the video.

  25. danpt2000 says:

Try and plot in Excel. Hyperbolas dont look like that. Maybe you mean Asymptotic function.
