  2. nimitz808 says:

CR Smith, please reincarnate and save us from the abortion that this industry has become!

  3. dfwroadkill says:

Back when they had an inkling of customer service. We've lost so much..

  4. mercator79 says:

@andyshangar yes I noticed that too. It is amazing how racism was the norm back then.

Shots of Condors and Fokker trimotors are very nice to see though.

  5. safetychoice says:

No metal detectors, no TSA, they didn't even make you take your shoes off. Ah, those were the days!

  6. SexyNazi133 says:

    very cool video!!

  7. andyshangar says:

    WHO was loading cotton?!

Man, we were the most boogered up, sexist, racist society... 'Wonderful nostalgia, but holy cow.

I love the old equipment, shared horizon up front. 'Bet those old headsets hurt, the noise up front was loud enough to sterilize mice.

What are the urns up high, on the back cabin bulkhead?

And we make fun of the Arab cultures for being male-dominated, racist. I guess societies simply don't evolve at the same rate. We were there, too.

    Cool video - but NOT 1920s. Mid-1930s.

  9. videobenji says:

"It is a depot, grandad, an air depot!"

  11. naturegirl92584 says:

From 00:35 onward, did no-one notice the passersby wearing the star of David, which labels them as "Jude?" I wonder if that shot was taken in Germany or Poland.

It is so sad to think of what happened to those people.

  12. mr1940s says:

It's interesting when they say goverment aproved planes. This was probably ment to assure people of the saftey of flying which had been smudged buy barnstormers accidents and just generaly being assumed as being un safe.

Believe it or not; I had excactly the same thoughts when I saw this video.

In the early 1960s I flew the Eastern Air Lines Shuttle between New York and Boston and Washington. A person could walk to the gate 1 minute before departure and get on the flight. If the plane was full, another plane was brought to the gate, even for a single passenger. Tickets were bought on board.

Now you must arrive at the security or baggage check in a hour before departure. From one minute to one hour; now that's progress!

  15. OvaltinePatrol says:

I was so drawn in I almost missed it when he said "darkies loading cotton."

I look at a lot of these old films and think how great life must have been, and then things like that remind me that it wasn't so great for everyone.

  16. rwnutjob says:

Air travel has become like the bus in the sixties. That's what you get when you want $99 airline flights.

  17. cryps1 says:

  18. itsaguinness says:

  19. wesawebi says:

better? they had no security checks, no baggage questions... walk in and go. no smoking regulations and no questions about what you carried. treated special,,,not like cattle. geesh,,,,today is better,,,,you must be young or stupid.

  20. anjojune says:

funny now one can go by car to NY from Chicago the same time it took that plane to fly the same route..

  21. lasuvidaboy says:

The class of passenger was very different in those days. Flying was reserved for the wealthy and was out of the average person's reach.

  22. HR5308 says:

Insn`t it strange to think, that all these people are not living any more?

  23. HGbunny says:

I just got to the part you're talking about, 4:39. I had to listen to it 3 times to be sure what they were saying. Indeed, things are better, and the hope that things will continue to improve and evolve.

  24. LordLith says:

that food looks so much better than the stuff they serve know

  25. redsoil5 says:

It is amazing how things changed.Back then people are very modest, they fly in suit and are very formal, now I can see people travel in tank tops, shorts & flip flops.
