Before the invention of the stock market ticker, how did brokers get the most current information and how fast and reliable was it?

Iam 14 years old and I want to be a stock broker when I grow up, but I want to know the average it takes for stock brokers to start making good money.

I need to find the live feed data for the forex markets, along with the DOW and Nasdaq, if anyone knows where this information comes from, please let me know, trying to make some software.
